Twitter Video Downloader Not Working? Troubleshoot X Downloads in Aye

If a Twitter video downloader is not working, identify the visible symptom before trying again. On X (formerly Twitter), first check whether the post offers X's own Download video command. In Aye, a missing Save Current Video control, a preparation spinner, a temporary checkmark, an Interrupted item, and a Completed item are different states. Only Completed in Downloads plus a local file you can open confirms a successful save.

Disclosure: This troubleshooting guide is published by the team behind Aye. Aye is a Chromium-based browser for Mac and Windows, and this is not an independent product review.

Concept illustration, not a real X post. Page layouts and available controls can change.

Match the symptom before you retry

Use the first description that matches what you see:

  • X has no Download video command: the official option may not be available for that post or account. Check the platform limits before using another method.
  • Aye has no Save Current Video control: open the individual post, bring the intended video into the main visible area, play it once, and let the page load. If the control still does not appear after one reload, the page may not expose a compatible complete source.
  • The Aye icon keeps spinning: preparation is still active. Keep the post open, look for a save-location dialog, and avoid starting a second attempt.
  • A checkmark appeared but no file is ready: the request started, but completion has not been established. Check Aye's Downloads panel.
  • Downloads says Interrupted: the transfer did not finish. Confirm that the post still plays, the network is available, and the destination has space, then make one fresh attempt.
  • Downloads says Completed but the file seems wrong: use Show in folder and play-check the beginning, middle, and end. Treat an incomplete or unusable file as an unsuccessful result.

This sequence matters because repeated clicks do not diagnose the problem. The page control starts preparation; the Downloads record and the local file show what happened afterward.

X does not offer Download video

Open the individual post and check its three-dot menu. X's video help says Premium subscribers can download videos from certain posts, and that videos posted before July 25, 2023 are not downloadable through this official route. X also lets uploaders disable downloads when they publish a video.

A missing command therefore does not automatically mean your browser is broken. The post may be outside X's documented eligibility, your account may not meet the current requirement, or the uploader may have disabled downloading.

Use X's own command when it is available. If an uploader disabled downloads, do not use Aye or another downloader to work around that choice. Ask the uploader or rights holder for a copy when you have a legitimate need.

Save Current Video does not appear in Aye

Aye works from the page you are already viewing. You do not paste the post URL into a separate downloader site. On a supported page, Aye can place Save Current Video near the playing or primary visible video.

If the control is absent:

  1. Open the individual X post instead of leaving several videos visible in the feed.
  2. Play the intended video and keep it in the main visible area.
  3. Wait for the media to load, then reload the post once if necessary.
  4. Check again for Save Current Video near the video.

If the post contains several videos, open or play the exact one you intend to save before retrying. A crowded feed, an embedded player, a live broadcast, protected playback, or a changed page state may leave Aye without enough evidence to identify one compatible complete file.

Do not keep refreshing indefinitely. If the action remains absent after one clean retry, that video or page state may not be supported by the Aye build you are using. Mac and Windows are both Aye platforms, but that does not guarantee identical media coverage across every distribution or every X post.

The preparation spinner does not finish

Select Save Current Video once. The icon becomes a spinner while Aye identifies and prepares the current media. During this state, moving the pointer over the control exposes Cancel preparation. Selecting it cancels the current attempt; it does not create another download.

While the spinner is active:

  • Keep the original X tab open.
  • Confirm that the video still plays and the connection is active.
  • Check whether a folder or save-location dialog is waiting behind another window.
  • Wait for the current attempt to start a transfer, report a failure, or be cancelled before trying again.

If preparation no longer progresses, use Cancel preparation, reopen the same post, play the intended video, and make one fresh attempt. Page sessions and media availability can change, so a retry should begin from the post rather than from a stale spinner.

A checkmark appears, but there is no completed file

A temporary checkmark near the video means the request started. It is not a completion message.

Open Aye's Downloads panel and find the new item. A real transfer can show progress there, and the result must reach Completed before you treat it as finished. If no new item appears after a short wait, keep the page open and retry once from the individual post. If the same result repeats, stop: Aye may not be able to turn that page state into a supported download.

This distinction prevents a common false positive. A button response proves that Aye received the request; it does not prove that every media part reached disk or that the resulting file is usable.

The download becomes Interrupted

An Interrupted item is an unfinished transfer. First confirm the facts you can observe:

  • The original post is still open and the video still plays.
  • The computer remains online.
  • The selected destination is available and has enough free space.
  • No operating-system permission or save-location prompt is waiting for input.

Reopen the same post and make one fresh attempt. A network change, closed tab, expired page session, unavailable destination, or source that stopped responding can interrupt a transfer, but the visible status alone does not identify which one occurred.

If the second attempt is also interrupted, keep the failed state as evidence instead of clicking repeatedly. The current page may not provide a stable, compatible source for that build.

Completed appears, but the file is missing or unusable

Select Show in folder on the Completed item instead of assuming a fixed Downloads path. Aye follows the save destination selected through its settings or an operating-system dialog.

Open the file in your normal desktop player. For anything important, check a short section near the beginning, middle, and end. A filename or extension alone cannot prove that the complete video and audio are present.

If the file is truncated, silent, unplayable, or clearly belongs to the wrong visible media, treat the attempt as unsuccessful. Return to the individual post, make sure only the intended video is the primary target, and retry once. Aye does not promise a fixed MP4 format, original quality, HD or 4K, a specific audio track, or success for every source.

Why a video can play but still fail to save

Playback and saving are not the same operation. A page can display a video while providing its media in a form that the current Aye build cannot confidently combine into one complete local file. The page can also change, expire session-specific media access, show more than one candidate, or use playback protections that Aye does not bypass.

Aye's current-page approach is useful when you are already viewing an authorized, supported video: it uses the active browser session and does not ask you to copy the post link into another website. That convenience is conditional, not universal. When Aye cannot identify one complete compatible result, failing safely is better than saving unrelated media or an incomplete track.

Access, copyright, and platform limits

Only save a video when you own it, have the rights holder's permission, and your use follows X's applicable rules. Being able to view or save a post does not by itself grant permission to repost, edit, distribute, sell, or use its video commercially.

X's Terms state that people retain rights in the content they submit and that use of content must follow the service's interfaces, instructions, and applicable terms. X's copyright policy explains that alleged unauthorized use of copyrighted video can be reported.

Aye does not claim to bypass sign-in, private-account access, DRM, paywalls, CAPTCHA, uploader download settings, or other access controls. Complete login, verification, and account-security prompts yourself. Aye is independent and is not affiliated with or endorsed by X.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I watch a Twitter video but not download it?

Playback does not guarantee that X offers its native download command or that Aye can identify one compatible complete file. Check the individual post, the official X menu, the presence of Save Current Video, and the final status in Aye Downloads.

Do I need to copy and paste the X post link into Aye?

No. Aye's Save Current Video action works from the current page. Open the individual post in Aye, play the intended video, and use the control when it appears. This does not guarantee that every post is supported.

Can Aye fix every Twitter video download failure?

No. Some failures reflect unsupported media, changed page behavior, unavailable sources, access controls, uploader settings, or rights and platform restrictions that should not be bypassed.

Retry the current page with a verifiable finish

Get Aye for Mac or Windows from the official Aye product page. On a video you are authorized to save, check X's own download command first. If the page is supported, use Save Current Video once and verify both Completed and the local file through Show in folder.

If your downloader is working and you need the standard workflow rather than diagnostics, see Aye's existing desktop X video download guide.
